Hotel Hints and Suggestions

Coming to the Reunion from out of town? Need a hotel for Friday or Saturday night? Although the reunion committee didn't make any deals with hotels, we learned some things looking around. Here are a few suggestions...

Recommendation: Some of our classmates have looked at the alternatives and have chosen to stay at the Hyatt Place in the Greenbrier area. Advantages? It is midway between the events and close to shopping at the Greenbrier Mall. Hyatt Place is a clean and very modern chain. Rooms are very contemporary. As of this writing, rooms are available from $111/night (prepaid).

Some other alternatives we considered to be good choices...

Downtown Portsmouth: The Friday night event is in downtown Portsmouth. We looked at two properties that look like nice places to stay. Advantages? Enjoy Portsmouth. Take the ferry to Norfolk. Be close to the Meet and Greet Friday Night. The Marriott is a bit pricey, but is right on the water. Last we looked it was fully booked. The Governor Dinwiddie has been restored by Choice Hotels and is now part of their Ascend Collection. But, as of this writing it is also fully booked. Who knew Portsmouth would be this hopping?

Comfort Inn / Comfort Suites: Want to stay near the Creek? Want to save a little money? Comfort Inn and Suites usually provides three star accommodations at a rate lower than other chains. They have an Inn and Suites on Military Highway near George Washington. Rates for the weekend start at $59/night (prepaid). They have available rooms as of this writing. They also have a Comfort Suites in the Greenbrier Area with rates from $75/night (prepaid).

Don't want to prepay, but still want to get the lowest rate you can get? All of these properties offer AAA rates, but you do have to request it to see the rate.
